Accomplishments:

-Recognized as a 2016 Reynolds Fellow through the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism

-Recognized as a 2017 Goldschmidt Fellow through the Society of American Business Editors and Writers

-Represented USN&WR as a featured speaker at PBS MediaShift’s Collab/Space D.C. data innovation conference, hosted by The Washington Post. A colleague and I presented our Presidential Trip Tracker data project.

The Roanoke Times—Business Reporting Intern | (Summer 2013)

  • Responsibilities included conducting interviews, generating story ideas, writing articles for the daily paper, and managing the paper’s online local business blog.  This internship demanded flexibility in working hours, competency in reporting, and familiarity with financial statements and business operations.

Accomplishments:

Chickpeas Becoming a Hot Crop for Virginia was recognized as a regional finalist in the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence Awards.

WPXI-TV Pittsburgh—News Intern | (Summer 2012)              

  • Responsibilities ranged from answering phones to interviewing witnesses to writing scripts for the morning news broadcast.  This internship demanded concise and effective writing, communication skills, and organization.  It also required integrity in reporting and ethical treatment of people and stories.

Reporter for student-run digital news outlet, The Rockbridge Report | (Fall 2012-Spring 2014)

  • Responsibilities include conducting interviews, shooting and editing pictures and video, writing broadcast scripts and news stories for the website, and working under a weekly deadline.

Freelance writer for Washington and Lee School of Law Alumni Magazine | (Fall 2013-Spring 2014)
